On Ringo Lake Mystery QAL - Clue #2 all sewn up!

I was able today to get some serious sewing time in, and managed to sew together the remaining flying geese units from Clue #2 to the Bonnie Hunter 'On Ringo Lake' Mystery QAL.  The link for the challenge is on my sidebar if you want to check it out!  I still need to trim and give a final press to these blocks, but they are all sewn up!
I made these squares the basic way, marking little squares, and cutting them off.  I certainly struggled with trying to get the line in the right place.  I tried a large cutting ruler, a smaller cutting ruler, a regular ruler and some other odd things, but none really worked well on this pretty small little squares.
You can see where line originally went off the corner mark.  This was happening alot
I ended up trying to use the side of a business card, which seemed to be just right.  I switched over from my large cutting mat to a travel mat I have, which seems to have a grittier texture than my big mat, so the piece seems to be held in place.  The small card also allowed me to hold it at an angle, and apply pressure to it, further holding that little square in place.  Once I got the hang of it, the marking went really well.
I'm a bit embarrassed about the state of my nails.  I think a little polish is in order!

I am glad that I found a good technique, since the pieces from Clue #3 will require the same work!
I have also embraced the leader/ender process, that is, sewing up other quilt blocks before and after strip piecing for this quilt.  As a result, I am making more progress on the spider web quilt that has been underway for years and years!
I am hoping to get the pieces for Clue #3 cut out soon, but I also have a Christmas tree to get up and decorate!  Sewing the Clue #3 pieces together may have to wait!
I am glad to have gotten the Clue #2 sewing done, and Day 9 blog writing done!
Take care,
Gretchen
