Day 3 - Ruthie's Art Show

Hexies done before this weekend!

This weekend brought another road trip east to Massachusetts for us.  I packed up my little box to work on some more batik hexies for the as-yet-undecided quilt top. (flowers? geometric? abstract? - I won't decide until I get more done.)  I have found I can do some in the car.  I am obviously NOT driving!

I ended up finishing about 30 more.  I also am engrossed in a new book!
The occasion for this trip was the art show of my niece, Ruth, at Hampshire College as her final exhibit.  She created very interesting pieces, some of tiny colorful clay shapes arranged in thought provoking ways, and using rug underlayment in a very creative way.

I loved how the lighting created shadows that became part of the piece
Check out the tiny little shape!

The piece that seemed to get the most attention, mine included, was an installation of hundreds of little clay pieces, representing memories, displayed on the floor.  In order to really see the detail, you had to get down close to them. It was fascinating!  Unfortunately, I was afraid to get all the way down for fear of the awkwardness of trying to get up!
The piece also created conversations, as folks sat down to view and discuss the pieces.

I love the shape of this piece, which looks like granite, but is carpet underlayment!
I am so happy for Ruth that her show was a such a success, and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Glad to be back home.    Glad to have returned in time to post Day 3 of the 31 Day Challenge!

Take care,
 Gretchen
