Ah, Monday morning! I need to get started on cutting out the fabric for the Clue #2 of the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt (Quiltville Link here). This week's piece starts using up the yellows and golds. I am now realizing that these blocks are smaller than I normally make, and I am now having some questions about some of my fabric selections.
My original fabric pull |
A few of my fabrics are from more recent modern fabric collections, and while fabulous, also have rather big patterns on them. I have a concern that cutting the fabric into small pieces may result in a bit that is mostly grey and white, or be too white (and close to a neutral) in the case of the fabrics below, rather than yellow/gold. Since I have the white neutrals and the black dark fabric as contrasts, I don't want a poorly cut piece to confuse the design (whatever that might end up being - since this is a mystery!)
I used my rotary cutter to give you a sense of the size of the design. I hope to cut pieces today. I have enough other fabrics that I can play around with a trial piece or two to see how it goes. I adore these fabrics, but if I can't use them in this project, I am sure to find something else soon.
I loved the "asterisk" pattern so much that I made my kitchen window toppers out of the black and white version of it!
On to the day, and I can cross Day 4 of the 31 Day writing challenge off my "to do" list!Take care,
Gretchen
