'On Ringo Lake' - Progress on Clue #2

These have not yet been trimmed.  One thing at a time!
Slowly, I am making progress on the little flying geese units that are Clue #2 in Bonnie Hunter's 'On Ringo Lake' Mystery Quilt.  You can find the instructions  here.  It is not too late to join in! This clue uses my golds and neutrals.  I am appreciative of the tips she provides.  I have never been so careful with my sewing or cutting, and the blocks are looking better as I go along!
In addition to the fat quarters and half yard pieces of fabric I had pulled, I also found some scraps in my scrap bins which would yield a block or two.  I took an inventory of the fabrics I am using for this quilt:

26 Red fabrics
26 Yellow fabrics
22 Neutral fabrics.
7 Black fabrics
I wondered, is there is enough contrast in the values with the neutrals and the yellows?  Initially, a comparison of the bits and pieces was concern.  Not that I was going to redo any of this work - but I was concerned.

I was having a hard time distinquishing the yellows and neutrals in the mono photo.  However, my concerns were somewhat alleviated as I got the bits put together.
In the end, I decided to ditch the big grapefruit-y print and the white asterisk print, but kept the others.  I did cut enough bits for a few extra units, just in case some of these combos really don't work!

I think I am nuts to be doing two mystery quilts at the same time.  Tomorrow the final clue drops for the Magnolia Mystery Quilt, with the top to be completed by mid February.    I am so curious to see how this one will turn out.
My guess at how these blocks may come together!
Off to make more little geese - and to start putting up my holiday decorations!  My two recent trips out of town got me off schedule.   I am on schedule with the 31 day blogging challenge - Day 6 can now be checked off!

Take care,
Gretchen

  1. Your units for both mystery quilts look awesome! I'm very excited about the Magnolia mystery quilt reveal tomorrow as well!
