Day 8 - No sewing today!

Even though the final steps for the Magnolia Mystery Quilt Along and the third clue to the Bonnie Hunter 'On Ringo Lake' Mystery Quilt were revealed yesterday and today - I just didn't do any sewing!  As a result, today's post in the 31 day writing challenge is just that - a challenge!
Without any work of my own to share, I'll share two more pieces (fabric, but not quilts) from the Burchfield Penney Art in Craft Media exhibit.
The first was an installation on the floor of the gallery.  'Cloudscape', by artist Sharon McConnell, consisted of over 8000 1-inch fabric squares arranged to create a pixelated skyscape.

Like many pixelated images, it is quite distinct from a distance, and so very interesting up close.  These squares do not appear to be sewn together, but are fixed to the floor in some other manner.
I have, on my to-do list, a pixelated quilt, having watched a Craftsy class on that very topic.  I have chosen my image, and purchased my fabrics - I just haven't gotten around to cutting and sewing the fabric together.  Seeing this beautiful work may be just the thing to get me going!  My project is far smaller, and far simpler than this piece!

The second piece is entitled 'Math Notes", by Ann Clarke, and is a fulled knit wool rug.   The detailed design, which the exhibit notes indicate were her son's engineering notes, was striking.  I can't imagine knitting this up, and then fulling it, and having it all turn out so beautifully.  I was really enchanted by this piece!

I expect to make some quilting progress tomorrow - but for now - Day 8 is done!

Take care,
Gretchen

  1. I've sewn with 1" squares, but haven't tried a pixelated quilt. Best of luck on your attempt!!
