Published! Rainbow in a Box!

I am beyond thrilled that a recent quilt was published!   My rainbow half-square triangle quilt, which I called Rainbow in a Box, appears in the April/May 2016 issue of McCall's Quick Quilts, available now! Here is the  link to this issue, and a link to my quilt on their  website.

McCall's took such beautiful pictures of the quilt, and has a great facebook video about the issue, including my quilt.
I actually worked on this quilt top at the beginning of 2015, using up lots of my stash fabric, along with Kona white.
The scrap squares  in rainbow order
The completed HST blocks laid out in the diamond pattern.
The finished top in the January 2015 snow!
I quilted it up, and took some spring time pictures on the lake before sending it off to McCall's for the professional photo shoot!

The backing is a now-unavailable IKEA fabric
I quilted it in a continuous line, starting at the center of the design and then following the pattern, at about 1/2 in intervals.  Lots of turning and lifting.   Since then I have purchased  a mid- arm quilting machine, and a quilting pattern like this should be much easier!
It is so exciting to see the quilt so beautifully displayed and photographed, and to see my name in print for quilting!
McCall's was nice enough to give me a few extra copies of the magazine to give away on this blog.  Please leave a comment, and I'll choose two by March 17 and send you the copies.

I have several quilts underway as the winter winds down.  I am looking forward to finishing and sharing.
I will be linking up with My Quilt Infatuation! and Crazy Mom Quilts' Finish it up Friday!

Take care,
Gretchen

Kindness Can Change the World

For my friend Trish, I made a banner celebrating the joyful life of her beautiful daughter, Natalie, for a memorial Mass at Nardin Academy, Natalie's (and my) high school alma mater.  I incorporated some of Natalie's t-shirts and lanyards in this piece.   Both Natalie and her friend Ginny are loved and are missed and they were certainly in my heart as this was stitched.  More about Natalie can be found on Trish's lovely and inspiring blog, http://poodlewalker.com/.

Be kind, and live joyfully!
